[Tokyo Edition] Bespoke Tailor Struggle ⑦
to improve customer service
Realizing the importance of customer service, Arakawa decided to take the next step.
I will change jobs and work at a high-end select shop.
The unit price of products was higher than at my previous workplace, and my personal monthly sales amounted to several million yen. If the unit price is different, the customer base will be different, so the customer service method will also change.
I always prepare well when a customer comes.
We will approach not only passively but also from here.Of course, it is important to have a relationship of trust with the customer and understand their preferences. However, above all, I focused on making it possible for customers to enjoy shopping comfortably, and prepared the coordination and products that I wanted to propose.
Select shops have very limited inventory, so there were times when each store had to scramble for products.I think it's quite a battlefield to sell expensive ready-made clothes.
craftsmanship value
During those days in the new world, there was someone who had been keeping an eye on Arakawa since he joined the company. That was the president.
From the time of the interview, the president seemed to be interested in Arakawa's bespoke suits and career.I think he was interested in Arakawa because he liked things made by craftsmen. In fact, at the shop I was working at at the time, there were several craftsmen in various fields besides Arakawa. He was the kind of person who recognized the value of things made by craftsmen and treated them as something special.
Later, the president personally requested me to make a bespoke suit. They liked the finished bespoke suit so much that they wore it at parties.
For that reason, I think that I had a lot of interaction with the president, even though I was a newcomer.(Even after I retired, I was often contacted, and later came to our store.)
It was an opportunity to meet and think about people who evaluate craftsmen.
Where is the value of a craftsman?
Does the value of things become valuable only when they are evaluated by others?
I want my works to be passive, but also active.
The appeal of craftsmen's creations lies in the skills they have cultivated over the years, the rarity that only the craftsmen can make, and the works that are full of life.
What is Arakawa Bespoke? I thought about it again.
and the answer was「Life Art」
The value of the work is not only to be evaluated by others, but I want to put what I have experienced so far into my work and put it out into the world.
Art worn in everyday life, andA work filled with my life, this word, which has two meanings, is now the cornerstone of my Arakawa work.
Encounter with Kiton
One day, a letter of appointment was issued, and Arakawa is in Ginza.KitonI was assigned to the exclusive tailor of.
This was my first encounter with Arakawa's Kiton.
Kiton is a high-end luxury brand from Naples.
The Neapolitan jacket, which is completely different from British tailoring, was a series of new discoveries. However, at this time, I had not yet realized the true charm of the Italian jacket.
Many of the craftsmen who work at this high-end select shop gained the support of customers while working here and became independent.
While working hard with such ambitious friends, Arakawa had a thought.
“Learning is important, and I will continue to do so, but there is no goal in learning.Once here, I want to put out what I have accumulated into the world.”
The way to make that dream come true ishave your own shopThat's what it means.
After working for a few years to start preparing for it, I decided to retire.
I also told the president what was going on in my heart. At that time, Arakawa's desire to open his own shop was taken into consideration, and he made a proposal.
"Would you like to train at the KITON factory in Naples?"
I was very grateful for the thoughtfulness of giving Arakawa a piece of gold.
In this way, Arakawa left for Naples, Italy.
Meeting wonderful people has been a catalyst for me to take a new step in my life.。And the encounter in Tokyo also gave me a chance to become a bespoke tailor.
