[Naples Edition] The Struggle of a Bespoke Tailor No. 10

Days at Kiton

During my training at Kiton, I am working unpaid as it is a form of study.

So that was the beginning of my life in poverty again.

But there was no shortage of food.

Kiton's factory has a cafeteria where all meals are served free of charge.

It's also incredibly delicious.

"Kiton's Restaurant"

When the lunch bell rang, everyone ran to the dining room.

There is enough rice prepared so that you can have seconds, so it's not a first come, first served basis.

The reason why everyone was running was because they were hungry and wanted to eat quickly. But I can understand why they wanted to run. Arakawa also thought that the food at Kiton's restaurant was the best in Naples.

Distribution

The lady at the cafeteria was very caring, and whenever it was Arakawa's turn, she would always serve him a huge portion of pasta or gnocchi. It was a huge amount, but he would feel bad for the lady if he left any food, so he ate it all.

When I said, "Bono, Bono," people got happy and gave me lots of food, saying, "Eat this too!"

"A meal from some time ago. Sorry, it's half-eaten."

The People of Kiton

During lunch break, we all had fun talking about various things while eating lunch.

Arakawa was the first Japanese person to work at Kiton, so everyone was interested in him.

Among them, I became especially close with Gennaro , an old man who loved dirty jokes.

The people of Naples are friendly and warm-hearted, regardless of racial or language differences. They welcomed Arakawa, a complete stranger, right away.

《We always have lunch together. Ciro is in the front right and Gennaro is in the front left.》

The party starts every Friday at 4pm.

On Premium Friday, pizza and focaccia are spread out on the table at work. Before you know it, wine and donuts are lined up, too, and you wonder where they came from.

In Japan, it may be unthinkable to have a party every week, but everyone is always working hard and with a sense of purpose. And it was very impressive to see how lively they looked every day. They seemed to enjoy their work while chatting.

The working atmosphere at Kiton was very good.

When I worked as a craftsman in London and Japan, everyone worked in silence, so it was refreshing to see a production site like this.

Something strange has happened since coming to Naples

Arakawa was having a wonderful time in Naples.

Naples not only had delicious food, but also forbidden drinks .

Italians love their cafes.

Everyone immediately says "Caffè!" and takes frequent coffee breaks.

Naples in particular is the mecca of espresso .

Espresso is an essential part of any day in Naples.

It is no exaggeration to say that espresso is the fuel of Italians.

The Neapolitan way to drink it is to add a lot of sugar to the small cup containing espresso.

The thick espresso with sugar is actually incredibly delicious!!

I drink this sweet espresso five times a day.

To make matters worse, there is a Lavazza vending machine inside the Kiton factory, where you can get an espresso for 60 cents.

Arakawa becomes addicted to Neapolitan espresso and suddenly realizes that the shirt he brought from Japan is too tight and the buttons are about to pop off.

Looking at my round belly, I became convinced that this was the reason why the cheerful old men of Naples had bloated bellies.

In this way, Naples' food culture and the kindness of its people nourished Arakawa's stomach.

Founder Ciro Paone's collection

Kiton's factory is displayed with many of the favorite collections of founder Ciro Paone.

Collections lined up in the hallway

The museum exhibits clothes actually worn by British fashion icon, the Duke of Windsor (the Prince of Wales).

The Duke of Windsor, famous as one of Europe's biggest playboys and known for appearances such as "The King's Love", is apparently popular among Italians...

The Duke of Windsor's Tailcoat

To the Duke of Windsor,

- When wearing a single-breasted jacket, leave the bottom button unbuttoned (English drape).

The collar of his favorite shirt came to be called the Windsor collar.

・Although it was previously considered taboo to wear suede shoes with a suit, he incorporated suede shoes into his outfit.

- The Prince of Wales (a check pattern with blue lines on a glen check pattern) was a favorite of his when he was the Crown Prince.

There are anecdotes such as:

The fashion he liked is still naturally loved by many people today.

"Some of the pockets have distinctive cuts, making them truly 20th century fashion icons."

"It's hard to see, but the shoulder line is quite far back. It's an old design."

"Windsor Wide Collar"

Is fashion proportional to popularity?

Either way, it's definitely an inseparable relationship.

I don't think it's a waste to pay attention to your appearance.
